Cross Comix and Stripdagen Haarlem invite everyone involved in making small press publications to participate in the Small Press Award 2025. The Cross Comix Festival will take place on Friday September 12 and Saturday September 13 in the Doelen in Rotterdam with presentations, exhibitions, performances, lectures, workshops and other activities. Since 2022, we have also been awarding the Small Press Award, in collaboration with De Stripdagen Haarlem.
What is Small Press?
Small press is inextricably linked to comics: self-published and often beautifully designed publications in a limited edition, in which the creator can express their own unique signature, often even better than with official publishers. These little works of art are beautiful examples of what comics as a medium can do, with wonderful versatility and creativity. Often handmade, or produced in unusual forms and shapes, these publications can be eye candy and they are often real must-haves. Countless comic book creators have started their careers with small press booklets.
The entries for the Small Press Award will be judged by a professional jury consisting of Wasco, Mara Joustra, Tonio Van Vugt, and the joint SPA 2024 winners, Fynn Van Der Ziel en Abel Dijkstra.
The prizes
The winner of the Small Press Award will receive a check worth €1,500 and will be allowed to set up an exhibition during Cross Comix in 2026. The two runners-up will both receive a check worth €500.
Deadline for entry is June 5th 2025. After that we will announce the longlist, and after a first selection the shortlist. Keep an eye on our newsletter and social media for the dates!

Cross Comix en Stripdagen Haarlem nodigen iedereen die betrokken is bij het maken van small press-uitgaves uit om deel te nemen aan de Small Press Award 2025. Vrijdag 12 en zaterdag 13 september vindt het Cross Comix Festival plaats in de Doelen in Rotterdam met presentaties, exposities, voorstellingen, lezingen, workshops en andere activiteiten. Sinds 2022 reiken we ook de Small Press Award uit, in samenwerking met De Stripdagen Haarlem.
Wat is Small Press?
Small press is onlosmakelijk verbonden aan het beeldverhaal, in eigen beheer gepubliceerd en vaak fraai vormgegeven stripuitgaven in een beperkte oplage. Waarbij de maker meer nog dan bij officiële uitgeverijen een eigen unieke signatuur kwijt kan. Het zijn vaak prachtige voorbeelden van wat het medium strip in al zijn veelzijdigheid laat zien. Handgemaakt of in afwijkende vormen geproduceerde uitgaven, die daarmee echte hebbedingetjes zijn. Talloze stripmakers zijn hun carrière begonnen met Small Press-boekjes.
De inzendingen van de Small Press Award worden beoordeeld door een vakkundige jury, bestaande uit Wasco, Mara Joustra, Tonio Van Vugt, en de gezamenlijke SPA winnaars van 2024, Fynn Van Der Ziel en Abel Dijkstra.
De prijzen
De winnaar van de Small Press Award ontvangt een cheque ter waarde van € 1.500,– en mag in 2026 een expositie inrichten tijdens Cross Comix. De twee runners-up ontvangen beide een cheque ter waarde van € 500,–.
Inzendingen kunnen worden ingediend tot en met 5 juni 2025. Daarna maken we de longlist bekend, en na selectie de shortlist. Abonneer je op de Cross Comix nieuwsbrief en hou onze social media in de gaten voor de data!

Bekijk aandachtig de criteria waar een inschrijving aan moet voldoen. De inzending is pas volledig als we de volgende items ontvangen hebben:
- een volledig ingevuld deelnameformulier
- een fysiek exemplaar van de small press uitgave
- een pdf van de small press uitgave
- enkele foto’s van de small press uitgave, bij de pdf gevoegd.
